While this is quite a good book, it could've been stand-up in about one chapter. Some of the stories and anecdotes don't really seem to support what the author is trying to say and get across. But nonetheless it is worth a read. It will only takeA day or twoProduct details

Fear The Friend of Exceptional People edition by Geoff Thompson SelfHelp eBooks Reviews
Fear; the friend of exceptional people By Geoff Thompson
While reading the book dead or alive by Geoff Thompson, I came across a section about overcoming fear. This triggered my interest and I wanted to learn more about it. Around that same time I got my hands on a martial arts magazine wherein some other books by Geoff where advertised and I saw he wrote an entire book on fear. I ordered it and what I found in this relatively small book was pure gold.
This book is like the title implies about fear and about how to control it, rather than being controlled by it.
Geoff starts off with explaining what fear is. It's an emotion that gives us energy which enables us to deal with the situation that triggered it.
The chapter continues with the many ways in which adrenaline is released and its symptoms.
After recognising it for what it is, the next step is to admit that the fear is there. To quote Anthony Somers `Ignorance is fear's biggest friend.' It's only after you're aware of the problem and admit that the problem is there that we can deal with it.
Hereafter Geoff makes us have a look at what we are afraid of. Very often we would like to do something but don't put things to action because we are afraid to do it. Every time we step out of our comfort zone the fear of discomfort is there.
In the old days fear was there to give us an energy boost to outrun large predators so wanting to run seems natural. As times have changed we need other ways of dealing with fear. In the next chapters Geoff shows us some alternatives.
Next the reader is educated in exposure therapy by A, R & O theory of fear control and the fear pyramid. Of course Geoff warns us for the hurdles and pitfalls we will encounter on our route.
The books finishes with inspiring interviews of martial artists and professional soldiers who overcame their fears to live their dream.
As implied by the second part of the title, a quote by Cus D'Amato, the trainer of legendary boxer Mike Tyson, fear is the friend of exceptional people. This is the guide to make fear your friend and become exceptional.
The information in this book is what Geoff did to become a doorman throwing him into the adventures described in `Watch my Back'. From there he used the same information to become a writer and to make films. What I really like about the hardcover edition is the artwork on the dustcover. This makes it a nice inspirational gift for your friends.
Read the book and use it's information to answer the call to adventure and go on your own personal quest or what Joseph Campbell called the hero's journey!
